[governance] Reviving IGC: Merging Bestbits in, IGF Day zero event and other subjects

Hi everybody,
so from what I am hearing on this list these are the points that have been
raised:
1. All the discussions should happen on this mailing list. ( just to remind
you that they have been indeed taking place on the mailing list. Those who
turned up for the meetings didn't make decisions. Bruna reverted to the
list and informed the group about action items to be discussed. the
discussions have not been undertaken in a small group, they took place on
this mailing list and we shared the recorded meetings on the list as well).
2. Charter review:No one has decided single-handedly to review the
charter. as Ian, Sala, and others rightly pointed out, we should discuss
reviewing the IGC charter and measure whether the consensus over the need
to revise it and what should be revised. Nothing has been decided yet.
Revising the charter has to follow IGC charter amendment procedure which is
in the charter.
3. There seems to be some disagreement as to when and how we should do IGC
elections. Some don't want an interim group, some don't want an election
yet and some want an election to happen ASAP. Lets discuss this
collegially. I can create a new thread to discuss the elections.
4. As to BestBits closure, it is true that it was Bestbits decision.
However, now that the closure is being finalized on BestBits, there were
some concerns about how to safeguard that past couple of years materials
and valuable documents that have been posted on Bestbits website. One way
would be to bring those materials to IGC website under a Bestbits history
page. This needs to be discussed with IGC members. Another would be to
archive the website and keep it. But Jeremy does not (rightly so) want to
keep administering Bestbits website and no one else is volunteering. If
someone from Bestbits wants to volunteer to preserve the documents/website
etc, then I believe we don't have to discuss it at IGC.
I hope this is helpful. I think our frank discussions are good but let's
also be mindful of the issues we have been facing in getting our act
together and help each other to fix them.
