Dear colleagues,
As you may have seen, the call for nominations to the IGF MAG for 2025 is
now out (see here <https://www.intgovforum.org/en/content/mag-2025-renewal>
).
As explained by DESA in the call, the MAG 2025 will be appointed through an
exceptional approach, seeking nominations from the MAG and WGIG alumni pool
rather than the traditional broad community nominations process. The
rationale for this exceptional approach is the need for a MAG with deep
understanding of the IGF and WSIS processes, gained through specific
experience in MAG and WGIG work, enabling them to strategically guide the
IGF toward the WSIS+20 and IGF+20 renewal processes, prepare the 20th
annual IGF meeting and strengthen the future MAG’s working modalities.
In terms of the process (see here
<https://intgovforum.org/en/content/igf-2025-mag-renewal-general-guidance>),
within the MAG and WGIG alumni pool, members will be invited to nominate up
to two candidates, from their cohort in terms of the year(s) they served
together, based on their valuable and constructive contributions to the
work of the MAG and the IGF. The deadline for such nominations is Thursday
28 November.
Given the critical role of the 2025 MAG, it will be key to have strong
civil society representatives on the cohort. From our side, we are
considering nominating either Lea Kaspar (GPD’s ED) or Maria Paz Canales
(GPD’s Head of Policy and Advocacy), and we would be happy to hear if
anyone else is seeking to be nominated or put forward other names.
Thanks!
