Exactly. ICANN needs 'oversight' in the sense that it should not be able to break laws, ignore its own rules, be corrupt, etc., but we don't need the US role supervising/second-guessing what goes into the root zone file and awarding the IANA contract. You shouldn't maintain and "give" to some other institution a pointless function.
