Christopher,

Personally, I find the term rather cute and archaic, like "aviator" or 
"motorist", or for that matter, "websurfer".  We are long past the day when 
as Internet users we were part of an elite or a clique (or a weirdo fringe, 
if you go back that far).

Far from being the preserve to any group, the citizenry of the Internet is 
simply everyone, just as you say.   Like it or not, there's nothing arcane 
about it, any more.
