[governance] Desirable vs undue commercial and government involvement

Ronda,
Can you explain in more detail exactly how science might be expected to
solve the problems at hand? How do you define the problems in the first
place, and what possible solutions are there to those problems?
If the problem is indeed technological, then the solution is technological
(and possibly also political and commercial, if the technological solution
impacts government and markets). But if the problem is inherently
political/commercial then certainly the solution must involve
politics/commerce.
In the US, the delays in widespread deployment of broadband Internet access
are largely political and commercial in origin. Technologically it is
fairly well understood, as we have many better examples from around the
rest of the world at this time.
I would suggest that the burden of proof is on you to show why the problems
are technological in nature, and why political and commercial issues do not
have a significant impact.
