[Apologies for cross-posting]

Hello,

We have the pleasure to share with you a new resource which Privacy International launched a couple of weeks ago, "The Keys to Data Protection: A guide for policy engagement on data protection <https://privacyinternational.org/data-protection-guide>.” The guide will be presented today at a side-event on privacy in the digital age <https://privacyinternational.org/news/2278/side-event-confidentiality-communications-and-privacy-data-digital-age> organised by Privacy International and International Network of Civil Liberties Organizations (INCLO) at at the Human Rights Council 39th ordinary session in Geneva with partners of the Privacy International Network, ADC and CIS-India.

The rationale behind developing this guide is that data protection is often seen as complex issues and it can hinder CSOs efforts to engage in policy developments and legislative processes on data protection. Based on PI’s 30 years of experience and inspired by the work of the Privacy International Network <https://privacyinternational.org/partners> over the last decade to advocate for the highest data protection safeguards <https://privacyinternational.org/campaigns/enhancing-data-protection-standards>, the guide has been developed as a tool for analysing proposed data protection laws and assessing existing legislation to identify any shortcomings and how to advocate for reform. It can also provide the basis to advocate for comprehensive, enforceable data protection laws to hold the public and private sector accountable.

You can access the guide (and infographics) from this page <https://privacyinternational.org/data-protection-guide> on our website and you can continue to follow our work in this area through our campaign: Enhancing Data Protection Standards. <https://privacyinternational.org/campaigns/enhancing-data-protection-standards> The guide is currently available in English and a Spanish version will be published in the coming weeks.

We sincerely hope that it will support the efforts of organisations already engaging on data protection and that it will encourage others to join the global campaign for effective data protection so please disseminate it widely amongst your own networks!

Thanks again!

Alex
