[Governance] IGF 2023 - CS Event gathering

Hi everyone,
I also support Day 0 strategy as usual + Town Hall.

And: IGCers are invited to join (Wednesday 5.10 2pm UTC, 10am EST) tomorrow’s Africa Internet Governance Community Engagement Call. Agenda attached. To register: http://tiny.cc/AIGCE23
The Africa Community Internet Program which we discussed with some of you in Ethiopia, is on agenda. More IGCers input as that progresses welcome/needed.

Back to the Town Hall: my own preference would be to frame the IGC Town Hall proposal as addressing both GDC/WSIS high-level and ‘Digitalizing the Grassroots’-level policy as we will tomorrow. But hey that’s just me.

Although it is super-busy end of semester time here at Syracuse University, if my suggestion for Town Hall framing is picked up on I, and/or Syracuse University colleagues Prof. Danielle Smith, and doctoral student Jane Appiah-Okyere, might weigh in as well, to the drafting.

Hi Peter,
I think that it is a great idea to do both as they serve different purposes

How about we do both? Have the usual CSO strategy session on Day 0, and then propose a town hall on... the GDC and WSIS? We will have a draft at that point to discuss of the GDC and WSIS plans should be firmer.

Hi Bruna,

I see that it is advisable that town hall proposals are accompanied by a background paper and focus on specific themes of the IGF agenda. I guess it depends on how we want to use the space and the opportunity to bring CSOs together for coordination purposes. I see a lot of value in keeping our gathering limited to CSOs, be able to update among us, strategise, etc. But open to other ideas, of course.

Hey all, thanks for the replies here (:

Im happy to work on updating the template with the help of one or two of us if needed! Main question is whether we mean to keep doing the day zero event as tradition says or if we want to innovate this year with a Town hall ?

Either way, happy to work on Sheetal's template - as we have been doing it collectively in the past years. @Michaela Nakayama Shapiro<mailto:michaela at gp-digital.org> can you send it to us ? I did not see any documents linked or attached (but might be my phone).
Best,
Bruna

Hi Bruna and all,

Yes, thanks for keep the ball rolling, Bruna. Ready to help on what is needed.

Michaela, updating the template that Sheetal put together would be a good and useful initial step. Thanks!

Hi Bruna, all,

Thank you for getting the ball rolling on this! We're happy to support on this, please let us know how we can best help. @Sheetal Kumar<mailto:sheetal at gp-digital.org> helpfully put together a template document for past IGF proposals, which I could update and share if that would be helpful?

Best,

Michaela

Dear all,

Hope this email finds you well!

I was wondering if we should organize a civil society gathering at this year's IGF. The call for session proposals<https://www.intgovforum.org/en/content/igf%C2%A02023-call-for-session-proposals> - where we could submit a townhall request - is open until the 16th of may.

If not, we could go with the traditional Civil Society convening on day zero!

Are there any volunteers to help shape the proposal ?

Best,
