All the best, Marilia RightOn Web Chats are back! Is this email not displaying correctly? View this email in your browser *RightOn - The Wednesday Web Chat is back! We kick of with a discussion on 'Communicating human rights: How to win the global ‘battle of ideas’'* Pick up a newspaper, turn on the TV or flick through the latest Tweets on your feed, and chances are you will come across a multitude of stories about human rights. However, the vast majority of those stories will be focused on ‘negatives’. This partly reflects human nature and the 24/7 media/social media culture where ‘no news is good news’ or ‘good news is no news,’ and where interest naturally gravitates to the ‘negative.’ But is also reflective of a crisis in confidence amongst the international human rights community, both in their own regard and, in a relative sense, in the context of the ‘global battle of ideas’ with the world’s populist and nationalist leaders, and others who reject universal values and supranational institutions. *To find out what to do about this situation, how we can fight back, and what role modern, professional communication techniques and strategies play in that regard, we invite you to join us for the first web chat of Right On 2.0 on Wednesday, 9 September at 1pm UTC (3 pm CEST).* Register In the meantime, if you wish to find out what was discussed in Right On 1.0, please consult https://www.diplomacy.edu/righton If you require assistance, e-mail us on webinars at diplomacy.edu We look forward to e-seeing you soon! This is the options paper that has been announced as part of the discussions surrounding the cooperation mechanisms and IGF Plus. *The Paper addresses the question of how the international community will be able to effectively collaborate for the benefit of all on pressing Internet Governance issues. Its core proposals include:- The existing structures of Internet Governance should be maintained and upgraded. The Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the central discussion platform for all stakeholders around the Internet that was founded by the UN in 2006, will be strengthened and developed into a more inclusive and effective format (IGF Plus).- More stakeholders from all over the world should be able to participate in discussions around internet governance. Access shall be facilitated by means of dedicated financial support and a central information point.- The IGF should become a facilitator which connects existing discussions that are already taking place and creates synergies.- The results of the IGF shall be recorded in action-oriented, but non-binding recommendations or reports. This ensures that they can find their way into policy making processes.* If that's of your interest, Sheetal and myself would like to host a call or any place of discussions about your views on this topic. For example, what does it mean to promote and protect the public interest at the different 'layers' of the internet: code, content, infrastructure? What are the challenges at the moment, and what can be done? I can then set up a pad to collect views and we can set up a call for those interested. We came to the conclusion that, in order to discuss AI in depth, it is very important to demystify it and understand what happens under the bonnet. With this idea in mind, our Speech Generator was born. It combines technical knowledge on AI and policy expertise focused (for the moment) on the field of cybersecurity. I hope that you take the chance to explore this interesting tool. The project is in constant evolution, so our feedback is very valuable to us. All the best, Marilia AI assistance for cybersecurity speeches Is this email not displaying correctly? The tool provides users with a comparison of the official positions of major actors. It also generates answers to cybersecurity-related questions posed by the user. Explore the tool *What’s underneath the bonnet* Unlike huge state-of-the-art algorithms (such as GPT3) which represent black boxes, Diplo’s approach is to recreate the human process of thinking in speech generation, and mimic it with a group of various algorithms supported with human expertise. The result is a system of algorithms interconnected with human knowledge, which provides users with fully explainable answers. Read the technical notes *Anchoring AI into core values* The tool aims to provide a meeting point between human expertise and AI. The next phase, in fact, will use human expertise for training various algorithms, such as text classification, sentiment analysis, and recommendation system. At the core of this new tool is an experiment to anchor AI into our core values. It is by understanding how AI functions and by combining it with human intelligence, that we can prepare ourselves as a society - as humanity - for what’s to come.
