Dear Michael,
Let me refer you all to the original call for nominations sent by the CSCG
and relayed to the member coalitions. The sections which answer your
questions are highlighted.

Information on the process
==========================

We should nominate one or more civil society candidates for the IGF MAG. The
call for nominations is at:

https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/announcement-from-mr-wu-hon
gbo-under-secretary-general-for-economic-and-social-affairs
<https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/announcement-from-mr-wu-hongbo-under-secretary-general-for-economic-and-social-affairs>

There is a FAQ at:

https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/mag-renewal-2016

The list of current members is at:

 https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/mag-2016-membership

One civil society representative cannot stay on, because she has served for
three terms:

. Ms. Andersdotter Amelia (Civil Society, 3 terms)
Orsundsbro, Sweden - Membership, Pirate Party

As we understand the FAQ, there is not a fixed number of civil society
representatives. So none of our nominations might be accepted or,
conversely, more than one of our nominations might be accepted. Thus, we
don't think that we need to limit ourselves to nominating only one
candidate. For convenience, you will find at the end of this message the
list of the civil society representatives who served fewer than three terms
and who therefore would be expected to continue to be on the MAG.

The rules of procedure for our nominations are at:

 http://www.internetgov-cs.org/procedures

We are now at step 7: call for candidates. Nominations should be send to
rhill at hill-a.ch by 9 December. They will then be forwarded to the NomCOm.

The selection criteria are the ones listed in the call for candidates, see
below. Once the candidates are selected by the NomCom, the non-voting chair
will fill in the official IGF form, as nominator, for each of our selected
candidates, using the information provided by the candidates

The timeline for the process is:

3 December: each coalition will issue its own call for candidates,
specifying that nominations should be sent to rhill at hill-a.ch . CSCG
members will circulate the call as widely as possible, to encourage
participation from all sectors of civil society. Deadline for nominations is
9 December.

10-12 December: establish short-list

12-15 December: select candidates

16 December: submit candidates to IGF Secretariat

Call for Candidates - deadline 9 December
=========================================

As part of the process of the annual renewal of IGF MAG, we are seeking
candidates from civil society. Candidatures will be evaluated by a CSCG
NomCom specifically created for this purpose. The non-voting chair of the
NomCom will submit the selected nominations to the IGF using the official
IGF nomination form available on the web. One civil society representative
to MAG is leaving due to term limit, but there is no fixed number of civil
society representatives, so there might be zero, or more than one, new civil
society representatives in the next MAG.

The selection criteria that the NomCom will use are shown below.

Selection criteria
------------------

Candidates should have extensive linkages with civil society groups.

Candidates must have the ability to represent civil society as a whole,
rather than any one particular group.

Candidates must be able to provide advice on the programme and main themes
of the next meeting of the IGF.

Candidates must be able attend, in person or remotely, two to three MAG
meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, in addition to the annual IGF meeting. They
should participate actively in the preparatory process throughout the year,
through engagement in the online multilateral dialogue among MAG members.

Process
-------

Candidates should address the selection criteria in their nominations.

Self-nominations are allowed.

Candidates must provide the following information, which is required to fill
in the IGF nomination form:

Surname
First Name
Job Title
Organization
City of Residence
Country of Residence
Nationality(ies) (multiple nationalities can be specified, must be UN
countries)
Contact E-Mail
Contact Telephone number, including the country code
Justification for the nomination, providing relevant background information
(no more than 250 words)

Candidatures must be sent by E-Mail by 9 December, to the non-voting chair
of the NomCom: rhill at hill-a.ch

From the CSCG Procedures at http://www.internetgov-cs.org/procedures

10. The Nomcom will set appropriate procedures for making its selections.
Unless circumstances suggest otherwise, the selection should begin with a
shortlisting process, which will assist in identifying candidates who best
fit the criteria. Following the shortlisting, Nomcom members will select
the final candidates, using online exchanges and if necessary conference
linkups.

11. All members of the Nomcom are required to consider the interests of
civil society as a whole in determining appropriate representatives.

12. All Nomcoms will take into account geographic and gender balance in
determining their final selections, while considering also the need for the
breadth of viewpoints/worldviews represented within civil society to be
represented. While complete balance may not be possible for every
selection, CSCG NonCom members need to take into account current/standing
civil society representations in making selections, with an objective of
achieving balance over a period of time.

I have removed the list of current MAG members because this mail is so
long. The link to it is available above.

This is the best and most complete answer that I am able to give you at the
moment.

Best wishes

Deirdre
