In the context of the title of this thread (“PRISM...”) I was thinking
of standards that would have the effect of protecting the privacy of
casual communication via the Internet (e.g. by email or “chat”) among a
specific group of people (i.e. I'm talking about the kind of use case
that does not involve an open mailing list), including privacy
protection of communication metadata (such as who communicates with
whom, form where, at what time) to the extent possible.

I'm not aware of an adequate set of standards for that, but I'm happy
to get educated. :-)
