Dear All,

This is a mini-update of the PACINET conference in the Pacific. There was
good representation of people in

We are concluding the PACINET 2011 which was hosted by the American Samoan
Government in partnership with the Pacific Internet Society in Pago Pago in
American Samoa and it has been excellent to hear diverse perspectives from
the Pacific region. The Pacific has 22 countries and territories on
internet governance issues such as:-


   1. Critical Internet Resources - IP Addressing (IPv6  etc);
   2. Root Zone Management - A Snapshot;
   3. Multilingualism [Session on ICANN and interesting interaction on IDN;
   Samoanisation of Technology;
   4. Meaningful Participation - Training on IG (Diplo Foundation Alumni in
   the Pacific), Training on IPv6 and DNSSEC by APNIC;
   5. Security [Cyber Security in the USA, Thomas Duffy; DNSSEC by APNIC;
   6. Traditional Knowledge - Using the Internet to preserve culture and
   language  [Niue, American Samoan, Samoan experience];
   7. GIS;
   8. Tsunami Crisis Management: Lessons from American Samoa;
   9. Women in ICT;
   10. Access (Persons with disabilities w3c (Presentation by a visually
   impaired Samoan young lady who is the Director of an NGO in Samoa that
   advocates for access and she did a demonstration of how she uses the
   internet to work. She has a Masters in Communication from a University in
   Australia; interconnection costs (lack of competition in some countries,
   need for an IXP in certain places, infrastructure (challenges), vocational
   rehabilitation,
   11. Freedom of Expression; etc
