Many thanks for this useful feedback.  I'll try to incorporate these
suggestions into "phase 3".  (This may take some time, due to pressure
of other work.)

Regarding the LDAP problems when you add additional profile details, I
thought I had this nailed already but it will clearly take some more
time.  For now, please hold off on extending your profile until I say
so.
