[governance] Your support for a petition

Some of the comments prompted me to review my memory of various acts the
DoC has done in the past and my feeling is that they try to give this
(imaginary) power to the GAC in order to get ICANN (board) to behave.

Which is pity, because the GAC should be an integral part of the ICANN
process along with the other ACs and SOs. There should be in no time
confrontation between any of these and the ICANN board.

Governments, being as independent as they are (or think they are, or are
let to think they are) can act in any (un)reasonable way imaginable.
There is no need to formally give them powers, that they believe are
already in their hands. Besides, as it was pointed out many times, the
GAC is not governments, as it should be.

This issue is getting way too complicated for a simple petition. :(

By the way, what is wrong with a government requesting veto on any
particular new gTLD?

Daniel
