I concur, these were my thoughts also. It would seem a little early to "give up" on the human rights theme, simply because certain governments will continue opposing it. They will continue to resist recognising human rights in their own countries too, but that's rather the point of activism, isn't it?
My apologies for not contributing further to this discussion as I am currently travelling in Borneo, and will be travelling again next week, so I won't be able to attend the open consultation meeting. But my best wishes to Ginger and the others who will be there.
