As many of you may know, ICANN has recently announced that Cairo has
been selected to host its 33rd International Public Meeting <http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-17may08.htm
 >

Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA) published a public statement
the other day in which he and other congressional representatives seem
to indicate that ICANN promotes free speech principles. However recent
comments by members of the ICANN at-large advisory committee as well
as members of ICANN staff seem to indicate that issues of freedom of
expression, censorship and internet freedom is NOT of concern to ICANN.

Perhaps what is needed is that internet users start an advocacy
campaign to make it clear to ICANN and its at-large advisory committee
that Internet Freedom is not optional - but a right of that should be
promoted and included as a core organizational value.

regards

Robert
