Final statement Club de Madrid General Assembly

Prague, November 9-12, 2005 - We, Members of the Club de Madrid, all
democratic former Heads of State and Government, came to Prague to review
the post-communist transitions sixteen years after the fall of the Berlin
Wall and to consider next steps for advancing our common agenda to promote
democracy that delivers.  Drawing on our personal experiences as political
leaders and the insights of experts in the field of democracy promotion, we
sought to identify the main challenges facing emerging democracies and to
offer practical recommendations to advance the process of democratization
across the globe.
