A final report will be produced at the end of the week with a general overview of the event. The reports from individual sessions that took place on day 1 can be found below. This initiative is made possible with the support from ISOC and ICANN. All the best wishes, Marilia Day 1 update from the WSIS Forum Is this email not displaying correctly? If a call for workshop proposals is made first, organizers have to prepare their proposal without any guidance about priority issues for the community. It has been a successful approach at EuroDIG and I have supported trying it for the global IGF too, as it will allow for better curation of the final program and help to avoid the lack of focus and duplication that has characterised previous IGFs. And ICANN is actively striving for diversity. My personal view is that achieving diversity is not difficult. There are frequent assumptions in the internet world that there are not many women with IG knowledge and skills and leadership capacity and experience. There are similar assumptions about the pool of qualified candidates in the  global South  being extremely small. There is also an assumption that  diversity  is  just about gender, race, geographic location (what about diversity of political experience, views, business, knowledge etc.?). I personally do not agree with any of these assumptions! In this unique, one-day, by-invitation event held at Columbia Law School in New York City, we explore technical, legal and social questions concerning software governance in the near-term automotive future. How can innovations in software engineering help us to improve reliability and serviceability of embedded automotive software? How can user innovation be maximized, allowing car owners to modify the operation of their vehicles, while preserving safety and allowing manufacturers to limit their liability? How can vehicles be upgraded in service without also creating dangers of malware injection and privacy invasion? Presenting real-world solutions under development that maximize openness while increasing the reliability of governance, this conference aims to offer cutting-edge thinking in the context of an automotive industry undergoing revolutionary transformation http://softwarefreedom.org/events/2018/automotive/ -- Warm Regards Mishi Choudhary, Esq.
