This is some background on the election
process for those interested:

At this stage we envisage nominations
closing on September 5, and after that a short period where
candidates can confirm their nominations and supply 300 word
statements for the benefit of voters.

Election software is currently being
prepared and will be tested by a small group between now and
September 10.

On September 10 (approx) voting will
commence, and run for approximately 2 weeks.

Each email address on the IGC mailing
list for 2 months or more will receive an individual email when
voting is ready to commence, which contains a link to click on to
participate in voting. The link is registered to that email address –
so is not transferable. We will follow up on anyone who for any
reason does not receive the voting link.

The voting process will firstly ask
people to confirm that

they identify as civil society

they subscribe to the charter of
IGC

they have not previously voted in
this election

they have been subscribed to IGC
mailing list for more than 2 months

To proceed to voting, participants must
answer positively to all these questions. They are not eligible to
vote otherwise.

For those who are eligible, they will
now be directed to the voting page.

The page consists of a list of each
candidate, and also the option “None of the above” . The order
of candidates will be decided by drawing names from a hat.

A valid vote could be

a. selecting one candidates

b selecting two candidates

selecting “None of the Above”

All other combinations (more than two
candidates ticked, no options ticked) will create invalid votes.

Please note: The “none of the above”
option is important: because it is only by participating in the
election that someone can become a current member of IGC. So someone
can become a member without expressing support for any particular
candidate if they so wish.

All of this will be clearly explained
on the voting page.

After you have completed your vote, you
will receive a follow up email confirming your participation and
membership of IGC.

At the close of elections, the
returning officers will announce results and overall vote totals:
plus any other relevant information about informal votes etc. New co
coordinators can then take their place for their respective terms..

Also at that time we will have a valid
and up to date list of IGC members (for the first time in years).
That will enable actions like appointing an Appeals Team to take
place according to processes outlined in the Charter.

That's it in a nutshell: everything
should be straightforward when you receive the voting slip, but we
will post follow up messages on list and reminders during the
process. Myself and Tapani will also be available to deal with any
queries and anomalies.
