<div dir="ltr">Hi Farzaneh, <div>Good point that you raised there and especially that Macron's call was the opposite of what was largely discussed in the panels and workshops. </div><div>I think this would be exactly how we may brand our response. To highlight that IGF community should raise to the high panel and urge it to take the key takeaways of panels more serious. Panels are ensured by governance and selection to be multistakeholder, gender and region representative. Something the Head of France and his cabinet cannot do. </div><div>I liked the SecGen's point on multidisciplinary approach to IG just as how multistakeholderism has been established in the dialogues of IG. This can also be another response in which knowledge gaps and needs identified in the panels can be addressed. </div><div>These are my initial thoughts. Happy to discuss this further in case we progress with presenting a contribution. </div><div><br></div><div>Thanks </div><div><br></div><div>Best,</div><div>Nardine </div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr">On Tue, Dec 18, 2018 at 10:36 AM farzaneh badii <<a href="mailto:governance@lists.riseup.net">governance@lists.riseup.net</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">Dear all </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">I offered to help IGC draft an input for IGF taking stock. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">While reading the call for input a couple of questions in the taking stock call are worrying. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><i style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif"><font color="#000000" face="roboto, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:14px"><b><a href="https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-community-public-consultation-taking-stock-of-the-2018-work-programme-and-13th-igf-and" target="_blank">https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-community-public-consultation-taking-stock-of-the-2018-work-programme-and-13th-igf-and</a></b></span></font></i> <br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">As you know president Macron made a rather controversial speech during IGF opening ceremony, which emphasized a lot on regulation and multilateralism. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:verdana,sans-serif">IGF has decided to ask us (among other things):</div><div class="gmail_default"><p style="font-family:roboto,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:14.4px"><span style="font-size:14px"><i><b>C) How could the IGF respond to the recommendations made by the UN Secretary-General during <a href="https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-2018-address-to-the-internet-governance-forum-by-un-sg-ant%C3%B3nio-guterres" style="text-decoration-line:none;color:rgb(64,132,131)" target="_blank">his speech at the IGF 2018 Opening Ceremony</a>? </b></i></span></p><p style="font-family:roboto,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:14.4px"><span style="font-size:14px"><i><b>D) How could the IGF respond to President Macron’s “call for action” made during his <a href="https://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/content/igf-2018-speech-by-french-president-emmanuel-macron" style="text-decoration-line:none;color:rgb(64,132,131)" target="_blank">speech at the IGF 2018 Opening Ceremony</a>?</b></i></span></p><p><i><br></i></p><p style="font-family:roboto,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,0)"><span style="font-size:14px">My concerns: why do we have to treat recommendations of heads of states and the UN secretary general differently than other parts of the community?
