<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif">Today the European Parliament adopted the Resolution on Azerbaijan. </span></p>



<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:Sylfaen,serif">(</span><span style="text-align:start"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#1155cc;background:white"><a href="http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?type=TA&reference=20120913&secondRef=TOC&language=EN" target="_blank">http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?type=TA&reference=20120913&secondRef=TOC&language=EN</a> , </span></span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif">also in attachment) And this is not
surprising at all. Since Azerbaijan continues to demonstrate that it is an
intolerant country, inciting national and religious hatred, constantly
violating human rights and destabilizing the situation in the region. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Sylfaen,serif"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Sylfaen,serif">Over years Azeri authorities have
been publicly and furiously advocating Armenia-phobia among
its people. Recently Azerbaijani authorities have been glorifying and making a
hero from an axe-murderer of the sleeping man. Upon arrival to Baku the murderer
was granted the rank of army major, a new flat in the capital city and a salary
for years spent in prison (!!!). The main message of most Azeri media within
recent  two weeks has been "axe murderer = hero".   This is
a simple call to <span style="background:white">kill innocent people on ethnic and</span></span><span style="font-family:Sylfaen,serif;font-size:16px;line-height:18px"> religious</span> <span style="background-color:white;font-family:Sylfaen,serif;font-size:12pt">grounds to become
national heroes and receive promotions in Baku.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif">This policy is the
easiest way to distract people’s attention from the problems existing in the
country: corruption, authoritarian and oligarchic government, </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Sylfaen","serif"">the inherited power from the father to the son, constant violation of human rights
and intimidations against the civil society, suppression of the free press. 
Why to focus on the everyday social-economic problems, if the president can<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background:white"> easily </span></span><span style="background:white">gain support of thousands of nationalists, having just
murderer’s photo published as a cover image on his FB official page.</span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:Sylfaen,serif">The <span style="background:white">glorification </span>of the xenophobic, racist “value
system” <span style="background:white"> </span> reaffirms the simple truth stated by the
nation of Nagorno Karabakh for decades: the only warrant for the security of the
whole region is the international recognition of the Republic of
Nagorno-Karabakh. This will serve as a barrier against the constant Azeri
threats and will assure sustainable development for the whole Caucasus region.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Sylfaen","serif""><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Sylfaen","serif"">Non-democratic and autocratic regime in Azerbaijan is one of the serious
threats to the regional development and security.  In
fact, Baku is using oil con</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Sylfaen","serif"">tracts with the western companies to suppress
freedom and democracy. Using oil revenues, Azerbaijan<b>
</b>increases offensive weapons violating all
the possible ceilings of the OSCE and the Treaty on Conventional Forces in
Europe. What this country with the oil-autocracy-xenophobia-barbarism-axe value
system can give to the region?   </span></p>
