ILA guides users to assess not only the level of legal protections afforded to human rights on the Internet but also the restrictions imposed on online freedoms and their compliance with international human rights standards. This visual tool empowers users to compare the legislation in their country with that of neighboring countries, which aims to foster deeper and more robust understanding of the similarities and differences in approach.<br>
<br>
The ILA indicators are a set of qualitative benchmarks that will provide an easy and reliable way to assess and compare the quality of Internet- and ICT-related legislation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and beyond. They will also offer a new resource that is grounded in international human rights standards and international law. While the ILA platform helps visualize such assessments, it will also gamify the indices used in order to make them more appealing and motivate the at-large community to apply them.</div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica neue,helvetica,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:14px">Launched in February 2016,<span style="color:#3399ff"> </span><a href="http://igmena.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d1330db30dd9f99566ba5be55&id=c2eb0c7d25&e=347ed6a74d" style="color:#2baadf;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank"><span style="color:#3399ff">Internet Legislation Atlas</span></a><span style="color:#3399ff"> </span>is a pilot project of <a href="http://igmena.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d1330db30dd9f99566ba5be55&id=398e38707d&e=347ed6a74d" style="color:#2baadf;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank"><span style="color:#3399ff">iGmena</span></a> that assesses and visualizes the level of compliance of selected digital rights vis-à-vis international human rights standards in seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA): Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Tunisia. The project examines the legal frameworks that govern the Internet in the MENA region, and focuses on the level of protection afforded particularly to freedom of expression and the right to privacy.
